Green: And I’m Green Grape. We’ve been doing a lot of research on Yuri on Ice, looking at cinematography, arguing about themes and generally discussing character and plot arcs. One fun tidbit is that on our Nth watch through, Purple caught legendary figure skater Evgeni Plushenko in Episode 9 during Yurio’s free skate.
Purple: Pause it! Look, it’s legendary Russian figure skater Evgeni Plushenko!
Green: That’s him on the far right there. Just in case you somehow care about YoI and don’t recognize him, here’s a picture for reference.
Purple: That’s him, alright. Sneaking in an applauding Evgeni Plushenko during Yurio’s free skate at the Rostelecom Cup was 1) the kind of great easter egg we’ve come to expect from YoI and 2) a way to show fans of figure skating that Yurio’s free skate really was just that good.
